BIRD WATCHING
Next to Trelew, in the Valley of the Chubut River, framed by the stone fences towards the north and the south, there are four artificial lakes, covering a total area of more than 800 hectares.
Due to its anthropogenic origin and its elevated organic load, the system contains an important variety of energy resources that allow for the presence of numerous species of water birds and land birds, both residential and seasonal, which provide an important regional ornithological value, uncommon in semi-arid environments.
Therefore, more than one hundred species may be spotted in this place called Laguna del Ornitólogo [Ornithologist’s Lagoon], which is visited each year by thousands of ornithologists from all over the world. The tour is conducted by guides, specialized in ornithology.
This tour is complemented with a recreational visit to the ‘Cacique Chiquichano’ Lake, located in the heart of the city of Trelew, where you can see and enjoy the birds living there, by means of long walks, a tour along bicycle trails, or simply contemplating the landscape from the shores. |
