About us We are Entretur: an organization devoted to foster and promote tourism in Trelew city. We have a Board of directors composed of public and private representatives of tourism-related sectors, which is in charge of the management and administration of our body. The city Trelew emerged towards the second half of 1886 as a railhead of the line which was then being laid from the Chubut Valley to Golfo Nuevo (New Gulf), in response to the need to merchandise the high-quality farm produce the valley was yielding. This undertaking was initiated and promoted by Welsh colonist Mr. Lewis Jones, who had conducted negotiations in Buenos Aires for the Welsh immigration into our country, and after whom the town was named "Trelew" (the Welsh for Lewis Town). The rapid growth of the agricultural economy and the arrival of new immigrants and customs boosted the development of this village, which soon consolidated as a town. The pioneersÕ effort and faith, together with their obstinacy to utilize the waters of the Chubut river eventually paid off, when the barren plateau turned into a fertile valley. The landscape is today a unique blend of contrasts where the characteristics of the harsh Patagonia and the vast productive territories, abounding in wildlife, coexist. Thanks to its strategic location in the province of Chubut, Trelew serves as a national and international springboard for tourists, who arrive in the city all year round to visit world famous natural and cultural attractions. There is a wide range of tours offered to visitors by tourist operators, including one-day, half-day or tailor-made options, all of which set out from Trelew. With its different sorts of accommodation, varied cuisine, travel agencies, specialized tourist guides, international airport -the only one of its kind in the area-, entertainment and transport facilities, the city is well prepared to cater for all types of tourists.
